Crossing the Atlantic aboard a TBM850
Join us as we embark on an Atlantic crossing with the stunning TBM850, its owner, and Stan, the best ferry pilot we know. This journey highlights the exceptional concierge service offered to aircraft owners and showcases the capabilities of the TBM series.
Day 1: Departure from Toussus to Reykjavik
We took off from Toussus-le-Noble early in the morning, bound for Reykjavik, Iceland. With favorable tailwinds, the TBM850 made the journey in just over 4 hours. The smooth takeoff from Paris Saclay airport's runway 25R set the tone for the flight, with clear skies and breathtaking views of London along the way. Despite a cloudy and windy arrival in Reykjavik, we were greeted with a stunning landscape.
Lunch was enjoyed near the airport at a hotel, followed by a quick nap at our hotel in town. We then explored Reykjavik and visited the famous Blue Lagoon. The pale white hot springs provided an otherworldly experience. With only a light 2-hour jet lag, the day felt wonderfully long, culminating in a superb sushi dinner near our hotel.
Day 2: Reykjavik to Ilulissat, Greenland
Our day began with a hearty Icelandic breakfast before heading to ACE FBO at Reykjavik airport. Despite rain and snow showers, we loaded the aircraft and departed for Ilulissat, Greenland. The flight was smooth, though distinguishing the ground from the ice caps proved challenging due to the pervasive whiteness.
Descending into Ilulissat, we were treated to the spectacular Jakobshavn Fjord, filled with floating icebergs. Landing just before a snowfall, we headed to the Arctic Hotel for lunch. The highlight of the day was an icebreaker cruise in the fjord, where we sampled local gin chilled with ice directly collected from icebergs.
Day 3: Ilulissat to Iqaluit, Canada
After a delightful Greenlandic breakfast, we departed for Iqaluit. The weather was slightly cloudy, but the thin layer posed no issues. Climbing to FL310, the views were stunning with clear blue skies. It was a long flight, but the passengers enjoyed movies, and we approached Iqaluit at high speed under clear skies with no traffic.
The friendly customs officials welcomed us to Canada. After a quick coffee stop and paying the required tax, we set off for our final leg to Montreal. The flight was long, and communicating with Montreal control in French proved challenging due to the accent. However, after 3 hours, we landed smoothly at Montreal Mirabel Airport, greeted warmly by our client’s friends.
This short yet memorable trip showcased the exceptional concierge service provided to aircraft owners, highlighting the efficiency and comfort of the TBM850. From Paris to Montreal, every moment was filled with adventure and breathtaking views, making it an unforgettable journey.
